It's raining a bit here now, but not heavily. I got only an inch of rain overnight, bringing my total to at least 17 inches. But I'm still safe and dry and well-provisioned. I don't know what Harvey will do next, but I think I'm ready.
Indeed. The idea that it's going back into the Gulf where it can "re-moisturize" (as TWC put it), at the same time they released a lot of water from the levees, is a scary thing.
I'd be interested to see a topographical map of your area; I looked up Alvin in my atlas and you're *south* of Houston. Are you at a significantly higher elevation? I'm delighted that you're OK, high and dry, in any case. (I have relatives--a second cousin and her family--in Houston--they're presently in DFW--but we suspect their house is at least partly under water...)

The city of Alvin, which is southeast of Houston, holds the record for the greatest one-day rainfall in the United States. In 1979, Tropical Storm Claudette dropped 43 inches of rain there in 24 hours.

Mike, Alvin is about 40 feet above sea level, I think.

That was a few years before I came, but it was a big deal even then. My house supposedly didn't flood that time, so I hope that's a good sign.
