Wayne Rogers, R. I. P.
'MASH' Star Wayne Rogers Dies at 82: Actor Wayne Rogers died on Thursday surrounded by family after suffering complications from pneumonia, his rep exclusively tells ET. He was 82 years old.
Rogers, who hailed from Alabama, is best known for playing the role of Captain "Trapper" John McIntyre in the classic television series M*A*S*H from 1972-1975. He also had recurring roles in City of Angels, House Calls, and Murder, She Wrote.

He came across as a great guy. He was a man who you would of wanted as a friend. RIP.
The writers at Entertainment Weekly really do not seem to have any grasp of the English language. Wayne Rogers did not have "recurring" roles on City of the Angels and House Calls. He was the star of both programs. You know, the leading actor. Who was in every single episode.

I have gone on record about how highly I regard CITY OF ANGELS and Wayne Rogers' work on it. He was a great PI actor, which is reflected by his casting on MURDER SHE WROTE as well as the TV movie about the Massie case, playing real-life private eye, Raymond Schindler. This loss, despite his long, productive loss, hits me hard.
One of the reasons I was so annoyed by Entertainment Weekly's misusing the word "recurring" was that by stating that Rogers had a recurring role on City of the Angels, the magazine is failing to recognize how much he contributed to the series. It was a good private detective program and one of the reasons it was so good was Rogers's performance in the leading role.
I liked CITY OF ANGELS a lot, and I really enjoyed Rogers' performance on that show.
He played a bad guy in a Honey West episode, and I almost didn't recognize him.
His business work really took over after leaving MASH. There was a big deal made of it in New York when he was a {major} part of the group that bought legendary bridal boutique Kleinfeld's and moved it from it's long-time Bay Ridge location into Manhattan. (One of Jackie's sisters bought her wedding gown there, and she wasn't alone. Women literally flew in from all over the globe for gowns.) It affected the neighborhood as a lot of satellite businesses closed when Kleinfeld's did.
I remember reading that he made even more money from his astute business dealings than from his acting.
I will add that there are still some wedding-related businesses and spas in the area. We are pretty much full up with restaurants and bars, nail salons, huge drug stores (Rite Aid, Duane Reade and Walgreens; you need to go out of the neighborhood for CVS), and did I mention restaurants and bars? I bet if they did a neighborhood by neighborhood count, Bay Ridge would be right up there in most restaurants per capita.
