Yes--Rex is still reviewing movies for the New York Observer. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Rexy because of an exchange he had on a talk show (possibly Mike Dougkas, but maybe Merv or Carson) back in the 1970s when the host asked Rex if he'd seen "Deep Throat" (which was very au courant at the time) and Rex answered, "Yes--and what a horrible movie it is. An hour and a half looking at that girl's dirty feet." The host and audience laughed uproariously. Some years later, I saw said movie and it was dreadful for a multitude of reasons...but the dirty feet really stood out!
And let's not forget that Rex played Myron (pre-op Myra ) in "Myra Breckenridge." According to waspish curmudgeon John Simon, this casting was done so that certain aspects of Myron need not be spelled out in the screenplay. Be that as it may, as Rex tells it, there's a scene in the movie where he was in a bed sandwiched between Raquel Welch and an up-and-coming starlet named Farrah Fawcett, and Raquel turned to Rex and said, "This is so embarrassing; being in bed with an unknown actress."
I've seen Deep Throat - yes it was awful and after reading Linda Lovelace's book I was even sorrier I'd done so - and the nearly as lousy Myra Breckenridge.

I have very little respect for Rex Reed or his opinions. Most of these seem to be reasonable picks, but TRAINWRECK certainly doesn't belong here.
My favorite Rex quote was when he said Nancy Sinatra (look her up, whippersnappers) looked like "a pizza waitress."

Rex has had his moments, but I never much cared for his reviews. The "dirty feet" was a good one, though.
