Wait--according to the article, nobody remembers Cimino's follow-up to THE DEERHUNTER? Nobody remembers HEAVEN'S GATE, one of Hollywood's biggest, most indulgent fiascos and subject of at least one insider tell-all? I'm having trouble with that.
/Whatever happened to Michael Cimino's remake of THE FOUNTAINHEAD? Perhaps it's best not to ask.
Me too! My husband and I watched it after reading Stephen Bach's FINAL CUT (the insider tell-all I refer to above). It was pretty damn bad, especially in one crazy scene of complete violent mayhem where the newly-arrived immigrants' screams are subtitled things like, "I'm so scared!" People being shot at in the middle of a range war are scared? Thanks for the heads-up, Mike, or I might never have figured it out. Also, I have never figured out the relationship between Kris Kristofferson and the woman at the end of the movie. Well, there's lots I never figured out about it--and undoubtedly never will.
I remember that HEAVEN'S GATE was long and had lots of shooting with an absurd final battle. HEAVEN'S GATE was one of the few flicks I watched that ran onto a second VHS tape.

Maybe people remember HEAVEN'S GATE, but how many of them actually sat through it? (I did.)

Maybe if you'd seen The Director's Cut . . . .
I watched it too, all 4 - or however many it was - hours.
Why did Herbert Ross have a reputation as a "woman's director" if he was that much of a d1ckhead?
