I've read Margery Kempe's book. What the article does not address is that Kempe had 22 children and part if her quest to be an anchorite might be attributed to undiagnosed post-Parton depression along with a desire to find a religious and irrefutable excuse to remain celebate.
/ in the book, Kempe's husband comes across as a bit of a horndog, always trying to devise scenarios that would require them to break their vow of celibacy.
