Heck, Dianna, it's all subjective. Some of the more frequently mentioned pistols on top ten lists are: -Colt 1911 -Colt Single Action Army -Smith and Wesson Military and Police (Model 10) in .38 -Browning Hi-Power -Walther P-38 -Beretta 92 -Glock 17
As yet another one of the gun cranks who comments over here, my personal list would include the Colt 1911, the S&W Registered Magnum (and probably also the S&W .44 Magnum), the Glock series of automatic pistols, and the Colt Single Action Army.
I'm a Canadian. These things are foreign to me. (I had a friend on the local police force tell me that the scariest experience of his time on the force was the one time when he had to draw his weapon in the line of duty.)

Top 10 smallbore European autos.
Where's the 1911, Desert Eagle and Automag?
I hate to be the other gun nerd to comment, but what was the criteria?
Or, should this be entitled, "Top ten photos of handguns I found online"
No revolvers?
I owned a Beretta 92 and it was the biggest POS gun ever. The sights were terrible. At 20 feet it shot off the target! Traded it for an XT computer.
So what handgun(s) do the commentors prefer?

This is a pretty good list to start with.
