Well, Whatever

Americans find 'whatever' most annoying word for second year in a row | Herald Sun: "For the second year in a row, Americans ranked 'whatever' as the most annoying word or phrase used in conversation, a Marist Poll released today found.

Thirty-nine per cent of those polled were most irritated by the oft-used 'whatever', while 28 per cent found the term 'like' the most offensive."

I still vote for "utilize" though the verb "to flounder" (instead of "to founder" runs an awfully close 2nd.

I agree with both of them, although I sometimes feel "like" reaching out and strangling folks who use like every other word when running off at the mouth.

I recall a slight change in the word. I left a phone message for a friend months ago. She attempted to phone me later, and instead got voicemail. Her message:

"I was just calling you back; you didn't answer, WHAT - EV!" That missing syllable left me laughing for hours...
