Wasn't this the plot of The Simpsons' movie?
Yes. James Blish did it well in a short story in the 1940s.
A miniseries I'm sure to miss.
Robert Charles Wilson has also used this idea a couple of times.Good be a decent mini series if done on HBO, but will probably end up on a regular network directed by Mick Garris(who has ruined more Stephen King stories than everyone else all together).
The first thing I thought of was Wilson's Spin, which I liked quite a bit.
Actually I've become very particular about some of the Spielberg films recently, AI and MINORITY REPORT had a bit of the old magic, but not much.
"Rose Red" was actually Stephen King and Spielberg, which later became the project for POLTERGEIST and King not involved - he once quoted that he and Spielberg were not fated to work together...
DOME is based on a very old King book (never completed, he hit a wall when working on Maximum Overdrive film) in a mention on his website. I'll have to check this out - he forgot mention of a Blish version!
