I have no problem with that. The original isn't very good altho Paul Verhoeven has made some pretty good films (esp in the Netherlands) this isn't one of them. Poor special effects and terrible acting.

Terrible acting is an understatement. I couldn't get through it. Just awful.

Naturally I love it. Denise Richards gives another underrated performance, and Doogie Howser is terrific. I think they should've named the movie DOOGIE HOWSER, S. S.

I would have watched that one!

Of course, "high school" students Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, and Doogie Howser were 29, 28, and 26 at the time.

Compared to the novel, the film was lousy, off-target, pretty lousy FX. Not that I expect a new one to be any better. As Maggie always says, "a Netflix for me".

I'm probably the oddball here. I didn't read the book until I was about 25 (1973/1974, sometime in there), and I really, really disliked it. It embodied all the things I had come to find distasteful in Heinlein's work. I did see the movie, and though it was (probably unintentionally) funny, but not necessarily in a good way.

Love how nobody uses Neil Patrick Harris's actual name.
