Detroit Metropolitan Airport is surprisingly nice and a very professional operation. My worst airport experience ever was LAX.

I'm sure LaGuardia is right up there. Just ask Mike Pence. I won't use that airport, ever. I also hate Newark, as you have to drive for miles - literally - to get all the way around it to long-term parking (and then wait for a bus to the terminal). Last time we went there, they had some road work that made me miss my turn and I ended up - as Dave Barry would say, I swear I am not making this up - in Newark.

JFK is at least trying, and one by one the terminals are being redone (Jetblue, which we usually take, is beautiful), long term parking is easy to access, as is the Airtrain from there to the terminals.

We've been to Detroit. The airport was beautiful but so huge it took us half an hour to get from one spoke to another to change planes. Phoenix Sky Harbor is nice. They did a nice job on the part of New Orleans Louis Armstrong we saw. Vegas, meh.

Fortunately, we haven't had to use Miami or O'Hare in years. I liked Dane County Airport when we went to Madison, Wisconsin. It was so small ours was the only plane there!

We've been to several of their top 10. I don't remember Indianapolis standing out as that nice, but it might have been. Palm Beach is the one we used to fly into when visiting the in-laws in the '90s, but we haven't been there since we started driving down in 2005.

Phoenix is very nice, I agree. As for McCarran in Las Vegas, is there anyplace else where runways are so close to ordinary streets? I swear that you feel like you can reach up and touch the departing planes. It's a little unnerving.

Jeff, the new airport in Indy is pretty nice (the old one was a pit). I've been in (I think) 4 of the airports on the list (Indy, Pittsburgh, Portland, and Tampa), and they are all, for airports, better than OK. [My problem with Tampa (my mother-in-law lived in FL, and we flew into Tampa, rather than Orlando, when we visited) is getting into and out of the airport...I always managed to wind up going the wrong way.]

DWF has been a horror show for me on at least two occasions.

I hate to fly--to me, an airport is just the delivery system for the white-knuckled fear-fest that is an airplane flight!

PDX (Portland) is often high on these best airport lists. I've flown in and out of it a few times Barbara many more times. It's convenient for drop off and pick up, and there's a waiting perking area very close by to park and wait for a person arriving, maybe 2 minutes away. Inside, the airport is nice enough. The airport I'm most familiar with is John Wayne in Orange County, CA. Nice enough, but parking is limited. These days, I don't fly unless I absolutely have to.

We were in three of them on one trip back in 2003. We'd gone to Florida on a visit, but had to extend it due to a snowstorm back home. WE were ultimately routed from Palm Beach to Tampa (on a very small jet) to Detroit and then back to JFK.

We had a changeover in Pittsburgh once, but it was over 30 years ago.

American used to make us fly through DFW going from NY to San Francisco, and Raleigh-Durham going to Florida. Jetblue is a lot better about direct flights, though we are flying out at 8 am to Vegas next week.
