Without reading the list (trust me) I can name Luise Rainer (The Great Ziegfeld), Beatrice Straight (Network) and Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love) off the top of my head.
1. I assumed it was Oscar winners, not just nominees. 2. I guess (surprise, surprise) Luise Rainer was too far back in time for them to have heard of her. (Though she just died a year ago, two weeks from her 105th birthday.) Also, there was no Supporting Actress category then, so she one scene got her Best Actress.
Jack Palance once observed that there should be an Oscar for "Best Part" and George Sanders said that he always played the same part: "If it's well-written, I get an Oscar; if it isn't I just take the money."

Haven’t seen all of these, but Hopkins, Grahame, Quinn, and Straight deserved the gold.
