I'm Sure You'll All Agree

Dolly Parton's 10 best songs of all time

A lot of people are surprised when they learn Dolly wrote "I Will Always Love You" because it is so associated with Whitney Houston, but I've always preferred the original. I also like Linda Ronstadt's version. Not that Whitney's version sucks, you understand. She had an amazing voice.

Yes--a lot of people couldn't understand why Whitney's version wasn't nominated for an Oscar--but, of course, it was because it was not original to her movie. There's a scene in ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE where Ellen Burstyn is talking to Harvey Keitel and Dolly's version is playing on the jukebox in the background.

I don't think anybody can sing Dolly Parton's songs as well as she can. The other versions aren't bad, but hers are better.
