I remember, in one of Len Deighton's books, a mention of a CIA plan for eastern European agents--after some years in the field, resettlement to the US with new names and pensions...the comment was that there was no record of the CIA actually paying off on that promise. I always wondered if that was a real CIA plan, or something he made up.
