It's notable how few, as I've looked at about half the lists, of the people who actually know anything about sf have chosen either CHILDREN OF MEN or MOON as part of their pantheon. Which reassures me as to their usefulness in disqualifying the rest. STAR WARS would also do it for me...one young woman gains points for including LILO AND STITCH, which is far less shallow than the other three.
ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND 2001 QUATERMASS AND THE PIT BLADE RUNNER THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED TWELVE MONKEYS SLAUGHTERHOUSE-5 SHAME (Ingmar Bergman's sf film) DR. STRANGELOVE

Would you dare offer a ten, Bill?
My 10 rather impressive sf films at the moment:
ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
2001
QUATERMASS AND THE PIT
BLADE RUNNER
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED
TWELVE MONKEYS
SLAUGHTERHOUSE-5
SHAME (Ingmar Bergman's sf film)
DR. STRANGELOVE
Hard to disagree with any of those.
