The Safety Last clock tower stunt was not particularly dangerous. They built a dummy tower on the roof of a building, shot so you couldn't see the floor a few feet below the shot. Also, Lloyd used doubles in some stunts. See IMDB for details.

Ialways thought the ballsiest man in Hollywood was the guy who drove the chuckwagon in those old Gravy Train commercials. Could you handle a team of horses on a slippery floor with a giant puppy breathing down your neck?
