With all the health problems Ebert has to endure, you might think he would just give up on Life. But, like another great writer who was plagued by a myriad of health problems, Samuel Johnson, Ebert is going down fighting. I admire that.
I've not been a fan of Ebert's reviewing for the most part, but he's genuinely in love with film, and until I read the ESQUIRE piece last night I didn't know just what kind of genuinely tough struggle he's been facing. Indeed, remarkable that he's facing all this with such grace...and what a lot of fun tricks life plays on us.
