Knechtel was born in Bell, California, and went on to perform live and record with artists including Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, The Doors, Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Randy Newman, Hank Williams Jr and Elvis Costello."

I was a professional keyboard player for 30 years, during which time I listened to (and co-opted) a lot of Larry Knechtel's piano licks. He was a great session musician, always in demand, and able to ignite on the first take. He will be missed.
