Real or a clever fake? I don't know.

it's a fake. and a very tiresome one.

I think it's a fake, too.

I'll defer to you folks' judgment, as I'm not well read enough on Lovecraft's work. An aside: I like the Whittington book cover slides. I'm ashamed to admit the only one of his books I've read was his Man From U.N.C.L.E. novel and the few novelettes he did for that same magazine. I hang my head.

That's okay. Not everybody has access to those books.

you can tell if from nothing else from the contemporary tone of the muttonhead wiseguy conducting the interview.

That's my take. He doesn't sound like a WPA interviewer.

The Youtube slugline lists it as a 1933 WPA interview with Lovecraft; but the WPA didn't come into existence until 1935.

It's definitely a fake. As far as I'm aware, it's a teaser for a zero-budget movie "In Search Of Lovecraft". Which looks really, really bad.

Thanks, Richard and Ray. I should've checked my history book. And if the movie's as bad as the interview, I don't think I'll be seeing any more of it.

As others mentioned, this one is a definitely a fake. Somewhat silly since the questions asked wouldn't have been common for the 1930s, nor would they waste reel on such an obscure pulp writer like HPL, but it still isn't the worst impression I've seen. Based on some descriptions of his voice as "high" and "piping," I'd have to say it is probably almost accurate. I think the best Lovecraft to date is still either Combs in "Necronomicon" or Heyerdahl in the "Out of Mind" movie.

This is not a trailer to the movie In Search of Lovecraft and has nothing to do with it. ISOL rocks! I saw part of it and it has great effects and stars super hot Rachael Robbins!

This fake footage of Lovecraft is not related to the movie.
