Nobel Prize

The Local - Doris Lessing wins Nobel: "British author Doris Lessing has won the Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy has announced. The academy described Lessing as 'that epicist of the female experience, who with scepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilisation to scrutiny.'

Few had tipped Lessing for the 10 million kronor prize. At 87, she is the oldest person to win the prize, and only the eleventh woman since it was first awarded in 1901."

So, Bill, First you get cheated out of an Edgar and now you lose out on this.

If only I were an epicist, I might have had a chance.

Epicist. Isn't that someone who eats strange foods?

Crider, who showed promise as a poet and then as a novelist favoring shorter works, has in recent years become a fourth-rate epicist. That's it...I'm going to Stockholm, to explicate subtext and kick arse, and I believe they're all out of subtext.

I think that was a movie with Paul Newman, based on a novel by Irving Wallace.

An epicist is a special kind of Catholic priest who drives the devil out of the details; to confuse demons, they take unto themselves the names of long-dead authors of dull historical novels. So if Father Samuel Shellabarger and Father Edison Marshall show up in Alvin, don't ask questions, just RUN!
