Jim Winter Discovers the 87th Precinct

It's always fun to me when someone starts reading a series that I've enjoyed for many years (more than 40 in this case) and finds out how good it is. Jim Winter has a post about the first three books in Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series that's worth checking out. So have a look right here.

If you recall, I started reading them because of your references in the early Dan Rhodes books. I now have all of them. I'm sorry there won't be more.

McBain was one of the greats.

In one of the 87th Precinct books McBain has a very humorous part where one of his characters is talking about how "Hill Street Blues" seems like such an obvious copy of the 87th, the city and it's cops.

I am not sure whether McBain was angry or annoyed, or just razzing the television show.
