I'm Sure You'll All Agree

Bob Dylan is a great singer.: The Nobel laureate thinks we should laud his singing as much as his “poetry.” He’s right.

Um, no, Bob, you're not.

He's a songwriter who has occasionally done wonderful things and frequently committed pretentious twaddle. As a singer, he's terrific if you like nasal and flat. Lennon and Tom Petty used the best aspects of his style far better than he ever did. You know where to send the hate mail.

Dylan's not a great singer. But, while a lot of people get props for covering his songs, I'd almost always listen to Dylan's studio version that to anyone's cover. I'll also have to say I found Shadows in the Night and Fallen Angels less than impressive (and I somehow completely missed Tempest), and Christmas in the Heart is just purely awful. Odious.

It'll be interesting to hear the new one (which has been getting surprisingly good reviews for his singing).

I couldn't agree more about that Christmas album. Truly awful. I wasn't planning to listen to the new one, but I've changed my mind.
