Maurice White, R. I. P.

TMZ.com: Maurice White, co-founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, died in his sleep Thursday morning ... TMZ has learned. 

Maurice died in L.A. after a long battle with Parkinson's. He was diagnosed in 1992 and his condition deteriorated in recent months. The disease had progressed to the point he was forced to stop touring with the band 1994.

I knew he was sick but didn't know it was that bad. We've seen them half a dozen times in recent years - on tour with Chicago twice (and another one is coming up this Spring), also at Jazzfest. In fact, one year Aretha was one of the main headliners but decided she was unable to go on. They called E, W & F on the road and they flew ion, with only half their costumes, and did a great show. Verdine White and Philip Bailey (whose voice is still amazing; he not only does his only part bjut the parts originally done by Maurice White) are two of the three originals still performing with the group after 40+ years.
