I Miss the Old Days

In 1958 Egyptian audience laughs over proposal for women to wear head scarfs: In 1958 Gamal Abdel Nasser, the second president of Egypt, gave a speech in which he mocked the Muslim Brotherhood for proposing that women be required to cover their heads in public. The audience hooted with laughter at the absurdity of such an idea.

Yeah, we can miss some things. Some young Afghan women even felt free to wear miniskirts in the early '70s.Of course, they weren't brazenly going to school for education at that moment...

Not to politicize things, but, in the area of reproductive rights, American women have reached a level of lack of control that would have shocked us 40 years ago.
