Shorter version: there's always some fool willing to open his/her wallet for a taste of celebrity cachet.
/csb: When my oldest daughter was a high school senior (2010/11), we attended a mandatory parents-students meeting about the upcoming senior trip (Disney World). The school auditorium was packed. Before the meeting started, a "Disney Grad Night" promotional video was being shown. When the announcer said the Grad Night DJ was Paulie D from "Jersey Shore," the place exploded. I knew then that any marginal "celebrity" can make money. Keeping money, well that's another story...
It was during those halcyon days of yore (2010) when "Jersey Shore" was so omnipresent in the pop culture. You know, in between the times of Paris Hilton and the times of the Kardashians.

I'm glad I wasn't there because it would've been embarrassing to have to ask someone who Paulie D was.
