I am willing to compromise a bit here. I am trying to eliminate my double spacing after periods, but they will have to pry my Oxford Comma from my cold, dead hands.
On manuscripts I do for publication, I always do the search-and-replace task before I send it in. I can stop double spacing, but I have to think about it. I don't like to think.
I single space. As a lazy man, the idea of saving all that effort appeals to me. If you text from a phone and double space you might get a period after each word.

I can't type any other way--it's just how I learned. Even when I text, I tend to space twice after a period.
I'm with Deb. I literally (in the most literal sense) can't stop myself. Fortunately find-and-replace can fix all that in just under a second.
