Green Day and Nine Inch Nails Among Rock Hall of Fame Nominees: They are among 15 nominees for the Hall of Fame’s class of 2015, along with Lou Reed, Kraftwerk, the Smiths, Sting, War, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, the Marvelettes and the Spinners. The Smiths, the pioneering British band led by the singer Morrissey, has been nominated for the first time, as have the blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, who died in 1990, and Bill Withers, the singer of 1970s soul hits like “Lean on Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.”
Hat tip to Jeff Meyerson.

I really miss the old days, when Hall of Fame meant Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Buddy Holly.

I'm glad those guys are already in. They might not stand a chance now.
Other than Lou Reed, does it seem as if this crop of nominees lack a certain, shall we say, gravitas? I like Joan Jett and Bill Withers as much as the next person, but are they HofF material?
As for the Smiths--a great band but please don't give Morrissey another reason to go on a rant!
Lou Reed should be a lock. I'm okay with the Marvelettes and Joan Jett.
I agree with Deb on Morrissey. I've had way more of him than I can take.

Lou should be a lock. Already in as part of the Velvet Underground. I have no problem with The Smiths, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Kraftwerk or Nine Inch Nails. But where the hell is Roxy Music?
I'd love to see Stevie Ray get in, but as a first-time nominee, he probably won't.
There is no one in this crowd I'd grouse about...particularly when the asinine and boring likes of the Red Hot Chili Molesters are already in the hall. (Nine Inch Nails bores me the most, but I certainly don't run away from their sound.) The lack of renomination for the Zombies is sad, but more for the hall than for the band. Morrissey is apparently ailing, and that probably furthered his nomination.
Most deserving by my lights: War.
I think Nine Inch Nails might get in. Not so sure about War.
If the Velvets and the Police weren't already in, I might have another opinion...Reed did have a very impressive solo and pre-VU career, and I like much of Sting's jazz-pop, and Jett's career has also been a testament, but War did a Lot of excellent work and hasn't gotten its due. Because for me, and for you, the world is...
