1. Barter Books. Very cool store. It also has a model railway running on a track above the bookcases in the front room. The back room is huge. They also sell tasty snacks. 2. Daunt Books. Never got much but we have been there. 6. Ross Old Book Shop. Ross on Wye, unlike Hay on Wye, is in England. 8. Hatchard's. We first went there in 1971. It's in Piccadilly, down the road a way from Piccadilly Circus. 13. Blackwell's. Oxford. 14. Honesty Bookshop. We've been in pretty much every bookshop in Hay. You could easily spend a couple of hours looking on these shelves but then you wouldn't have time for all the other shops! 18. Armchair Books. Edinburgh is a great place to look for books though they don't have as much as they did 30 years ago. But then, who does?
I think a few were not there when we visited or were in places we've never been or were not of real interest (like the children's bookshop, which probably fit all three criteria).
I figured Jeff had been to many. I'm sure Geoff Bradley has been to all. Damn shame there are none like this left in the US, or very few. I very fondly remember the Hollywood Pickwick Book Shop, three wooden, squeaky floors with bookcases towering to 8 feet, filled with glorious goodness, including a lot of SF-F and hc mysteries.

Been there, done that. Well, some of them.

I suspect you've visited more of them than any of the other readers of the blog. Well, maybe Steve and Art would be up there, too.

My current favorite is Kayo Books in San Francisco.
