Thanks for that, Mr. C. I didn't know 'Madigan' began life as a book, so I can use it for my literary edition of As Seen On TV. I'll make sure I provide a link to that post as well - very well written and researched!
I never read the book but I do remember the movie with Richard Widmark - always one of my favorites (remember his appearance on "I Love Lucy"?) - and the television adaptation.
