Americans and Text Messaging | Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project: Young adults are the most avid texters by a wide margin. Cell owners between the ages of 18 and 24 exchange an average of 109.5 messages on a normal day—that works out to more than 3,200 texts per month—and the typical or median cell owner in this age group sends or receives 50 messages per day (or 1500 messages per month).

So 18 to 24 year olds send an average of 109 texts per day.
I haven't sent that many in my life. In fact, I haven't sent a tenth of that many in my life.
Stay off my lawn!

I haven't sent that many in my life with a cell phone either(but it's only been 3.3 years). Apparently the new etiquette is to text someone rather than voice call unless the situation is urgent. To talk to someone on the phone is considered to be rude unless you have permission to do so in the form of a text first.
