Well, that Koontz is something I hold against him. But, then, perhaps having Julie Christie raped by a PC was less potent a metaphor than the creators hoped. Though Baird Searles was reminded of Merritt's THE METAL MAN by the robot creature the computer uses as its real-life avatar.

I've only seen the TV version, which ws clearly edited, but I thought it was kind of an interesting movie. I read the Dean Koontz book too.
