I Hope I Can Hang on Long Enough

I usually don't talk about my work on my own, or other people's, blogs, but in this case...

I work supporting computer backup hardware and software on a daily basis, and have for the past four years (and I spent 13 years as a sysadmin, where I dealt with backups daily).

In that time, one of the things I've learned is that there's two important parts to this. The first part is backing up the data, of course.

The second part is restoring the data from backups. You probably wouldn't be shocked to learn that a lot of people think they've been backing up their data, and it turns out the backups were not running for months because of an undetected problem, or there are issues with the hardware, or the media...

So Kurzweil may be right when he says we'll be able to back up our brains. But what about restoring them?

Yeah, I can see that might be a problem.
