The movie has an interesting genesis. Arthur Hailey, a former RAF pilot, was working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation when he wrote "Flight into Danger." It was produced by the CBC starring a former observaton aircraft pilot named James Doohan (yes, that James Doohan). It was then made as a hollywood movie - "Zero Hour" - and novelized by Hailey as "Flight Into Danger: Runway Zero-Eight" which was later remade as a TV movie "Terror In The Sky" Strring Doug McClure. THEN it became "Airplane."
