Hey, Youse Guys!

Why the classic New York accent is fading away - NYPOST.com: "Will old Noo Yawk become a museum piece, the subway token of language?"

I loved the article, altho' my voice will soon make me a museum piece. Born and raised (and still live) in NYC, I have a very distinctive New York accent and am proud of it.

Perhaps one day I can charge people for the privilege of listening to my dulcet tones.

My late father in law had the classic accent too.

It's not just the "r" either.

Many older Brooklynites say "earl" for "oil" and vice versa, as in changing the 'earl' in your car.

Jeff, I remember the "earl" usage by some comic book character from my youth.

I just hope people stop asking me if I am from Philly after 40 years in Detroit. That must be a heck of an accent.
