This is my favorite of the '50s invasion movies, and the scene of the saucer buzz-sawing through the Washington Monument is one of Harryhausen's best FX. As long as Hugh Marlowe and Morris Ankrum were around, you could rest assured that things would come out ok in the end.
I went through a phase a couple years ago where I rented lots of old 50s SF films. This, along with "The Day the Earth Stood Still" was my favorite. It got me to thinking about life in this decade and what invasion from outer space would look like. It gave me a story idea that might become a novel. Thanks for posting.

"Total Terror from Outer Space" -- now that's copy that will sell!
