Paris Hilton: “I’m an icon” Fametastic: "“I’m an icon. You either have it or you don’t. It’s something you’re born with.”"

Icon, like Diva is one of those terms that's become meaningless due to it's overuse. I saw a biography of Jerry Seinfeld in the library a few years back entitled, Seinfeld: The Making of an American Icon. Now I like some eps of Seinfeld but it's not the best TV show ever and as much as many people mindlessly parrot that the show is "about nothing", Jerry himself has spoken of the influences of the Abbott & Costello and Jack Benny TV shows of the '50s. But Jerry an Icon...?

Paris an icon? Maybe to American stupidity and the sluttiness of modern American celebs.

It is not merely a question of water supply and drains now, you know. No-- it is the whole of our social life that we have got to purify and disinfect. ~ Henrik Ibsen, An Enemy of the People (1882)

Time to give Paris a rest again. Go work on that opera for a while.

I agree with sas. It’s very difficult for me to reconcile your continued Paris Hilton obsession with the generally high tone and subdued sophistication of this blog.

"Subdued sophistication"! Great alliteration, JTD. Thanks for agreeing.

But this doesn't mean we don't love and appreciate this blog.

Robin (Dick Grayson not Jason Todd or Tim Drake)upon hearing Paris Hilton proclaim her Icon status:

Holy Vacuous Vapidity, Batman!

paris hilton knows by instinct what I, and only one other person that I know of, had to learn by long arduous study and observation. I, and I am sure my comrade, bow to her innate awareness in awe and admiration.
