Another good movie no doubt spoiled. What is it with these people? Many of these remakes not only stink, they fail to make money. Only in Hwood.
Those guys need to check with you and me before they screw things up. We could screw them up just as well, for a lot less dough.
How could this be a good idea? That movie looks and feels completely contemporary. There's nothing to update. They may as well re-release it and just *say* it's a new movie. Their target audience won't know the difference.

No, Escape From New York looks and plays very much like an 80s action flick. Kurt Russell's hair and short stature alone make that fact abundantly clear.
And I honestly don't see how a remake is going to spoil the original - if it ends up being a bad film, the original will look even better. Let's face it, Carpenter's hardly averse to the whole remake enterprise considering Assault on Precinct 13 (which is Rio Bravo, yes?) and The Thing (do I need to ask who goes there?)
Personally, I don't care how many remakes they end up slinging at me - at their worst they remind me to watch the originals, and at their best, they surpass the originals, blow it all up like Franklin singing Redding or Huston doing Hammett.
As for "their target audience" - I AM that target audience. Who makes a film profitable these days? The geeks who buy the DVDs. And really, it's in Hollywood's best interests to get these things right. Look at the Halloween remake - you've got an interesting horror director making a seminal slasher flick his own. At least they have a certain reverence when it comes to remaking movies. It could be a lot worse; it could be I AM LEGEND...
You would have to mention I Am Legend.
I didn't mean to, Bill, but it's like a friggin' canker sore. At least The Omega Man didn't use the bloody TITLE.
Neither did The Last Man on Earth, which is at least fairly true to the novel.
Saw The Last Man On Earth, never The Omega Man. Liked the former as a callow youth, not so much years later after some maturity.
Not a very good movie, but, as I said, more true to the novel than Omega Man.
