I agree wholeheartedly with Jeremy Brett and Basil Rathbone at numbers one and two respectively. Brett IS Holmes for me, much as David Suchet is Poirot and Joan Hickson is Miss Marple.
Agree with Deb on this.
Ian Richardson was better than almost everyone on this list, save for the first two or three at the top of it.
Rathbone is my Holmes, Weissmuller is my Tarzan, and Fess Parker is my Davy Crockett.
