Jay Thomas, R. I. P.

Variety: Actor Jay Thomas, best known for his roles in the classic sitcoms “Murphy Brown” and “Cheers,” has died, Variety has confirmed. He was 69.

This is what I will remember him for: " ...Letterman’s annual Christmas episodes, and told the same story every year about a bizarre encounter he had with actor Clayton Moore, star of TV’s “The Lone Ranger,” ... "

In the late 1960s/early 1970s, Jay was the night time DJ on WAPE radio in Jacksonville, FL. I used to listen to his "Top Eight at Eight" every evening. Around the house somewhere I still have a vinyl album from 1970 that featured the DJs of WAPE "presenting" some of the big hits of the day. Jay is one of the DJs pictured on the back cover.
