When I was in HS, and something of a math geek, one of my good friends (Lee, also a math geek) and I spent weeks on that (after our algebra teacher brought it up in class). We had no read idea how to prove a difficult mathematical theorem, and, after several hundred pages of scrawls, we realized we were in over our heads and gave up. Tell Seepy I envy his powers.

There's an excellent Nova documentary titled The Proof, which features Wiles and explains how the proof was developed and how it works. "Explains" in as suitable-for-non-mathematicians manner as they could muster, but it will still probably make your head hurt. It's on YouTube, just search for "Fermat's last theorem".

My head hurts just thinking about it.
