Neatorama: COPS has been a Saturday night TV staple for so long -28 years now- that it’s easy to forget what a groundbreaking show it was when it debuted in 1989.
It irks me that Spike, which now has the show, only reruns eps from the last 4 years or so, with multiple repeats in any week. I await the day that there's a 24/7 COPS channel, that will run all the shows.
That 18 hours gets you 22 minutes seems about right in light of the new LivePD show on A&E, which produces about 5 minutes of watchable material per 3 hour coverage of 6 departments. They need to rethink the concept.
I have asserted for years that COPS (along with HOARDERS and MY 600-LB LIFE) is one of the few "reality" programs that actually show working-class lives and homes. Not always pretty, but usually pretty riveting.
