Wouldn't the focus on the last year of Nico's life mean the intended audience would have to be familiar with Nico's life to begin with. Unless there are flashbacks, I think the filmmakers are restricting their target market somewhat.
Her solo albums contain a lot of good material(by Lou Reed, John Cale, Leonard Cohen, Tim Hardin, Jackson Browne), but are an acquired taste. The Velvet Underground and Nico is one of my all time favorites. Can never play I'm Waiting For My Man or Heroin too often.

Velvet Underground and Nico was a classic.
I still haven't peeled the banana on my LP.
And I haven't unzipped the zipper on "Sticky Fingers".
