I don't think I ate at a McDonald's until sometime in the early 1970s (when I was in grad school). Indianapolis, in my elementary & high school days was dominated by Burger Chef...same song, different verse.

McDonalds did not come to our area until the late Sixties. The fast food chain that preceded it was Kellys -- dime hamburgers, nickle hotdogs, and (God help us!) clam fritters with some sort of sweet red sauce.

I remember reading about "Hamburger University" in LIFE Magazine in the 1960s.
