I had the same reaction he had when I saw the name Floyd Kramer. Actually, my first thought was, "Wait--Floyd Kramer is black?"
The 1960 list is my favorite. Great stuff there, and yes I'm including the Floyd Kramer. I'm a big fan of late 1950's/early 1960's instrumentals.
Stay - Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs--one of the greatest songs ever. (1960, #6)And, yeah, that entire 1960 list is amazingly good.
Also, I think, the shortest #1 song ever.
"Make Me Your Baby" -- haven't heard that one in years. Great song.
We saw Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs at "The Ultimate Doo-Wop Show" in 2012. I believe he even mentioned "Stay" being the shortest #1 song ever.
