The Greatest Movie Theme Songs

I always liked the score for Star Trek: Wrath of Khan. The main theme really embodied the whole "Horatio Hornblower in Space" idea, and Khan's theme was appropriately chaotic.

That's a very good list. I'll admit that movie "theme songs" is not category I have ever wanted to be an expert in, so I don't really have any strong opinions. But the best-known bit of music from M*A*S*H (the movie) which became the theme song for the TV show is amazing ("Suicide Is Painless").

Where's "A Summer Place"? And Jerry Goldsmith's haunting theme for "Chinatown"?

/Plus is anyone but me calling b.s. on that whole "Judy Garland would call the White House and sing Over the Rainbow to JFK" story?

I'm sorry, Deb, but I really don't like "Theme from 'A Summer Place.'"

You don't believe Judy Garland would do that?

Definitely would put The Third Man at #1.

Perhaps I don't understand "theme song" as opposed to just "theme" as in music written for the film and the major piece. Oh well.

Magnificent Seven
The Big Country
Rio Bravo
Star Wars
Victory At Sea (okay, television, not film, but heck, so good)
The Ten Commandments
Pink Panther

Many, many more.

Oh, I'm in the like "Theme from A Summer Place" group.
