My favorite song of theirs. A novel in about 4 minutes. I'm still convinced that it was inspired by Hemingway's story "The Light of the World", which takes place in a train station and features an old prostitute talking about a boxer she once knew.
That entire "Bridge Over Troubled Water" album is one of the greatest albums in popular music. I could (and did) listen to it from start to finish hundreds of times without tiring of it.
James Taylor sang "The Boxer" live on the Howard Stern show a few years ago. I'm not a big Taylor fan, but I thought his cover was even better than the original, really moving. Even Stern was speechless.
It's not my favorite of their songs but it is one of them. On the other hand, I never was a big fan of "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
I've always thought of the Hemingway story, too, so I guess it must be right.
That picture reminds me that Paul had one of the worst hair styles ever.
We've seen them several times over the years, by the way, including back in the late '60s at the old Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, the 1981 free concert in Central Park, and one of their reunions, where their special guests were the Everly Brothers.

I think you make a good point. Maybe someone will ask Simon that one day. And it's my favorite of their songs, too.

/So long, Frank Lloyd Wright...
Ditto, Deb. I still have my worn copy in a closet.

I'll have to look on YouTube for that one.
