This is interesting and hilarious AND occasionally I had to agree. Mostly it is fascinating to wonder about what was going on in the mind (and emotions!) of critic-writer when he or she felt compelled to attack another writer so viciously.
Should have included the Irving, Mailer and Updike attacks on Tom Wolfe and Wolfe's "my three stooges" counter-attack. Wolfe got the best of that skirmish 8-)

Literary feuds used to be quite the thing, I guess.
