It is a little strange to read a list that was written by someone who was a rather young kid in the 90s. Someone who is not old enough to remember that Primus had a bunch of hits before they did the theme to South Park. Someone who wasn't allowed to stay up late to watch KIDS IN THE HALL. Then he would known that that theme was done by an actual Chicago band named Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet.
This list was written by someone who spent the 90s in front of the television, not in the clubs or the record shops.
I suppose if you are going to be picky you couldn't say The Wellingtons since they are really known for TWO theme songs: "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" and the theme for "Gilligan's Island". Still them not being on this list is an indicator of how bad the list is.

This says it all: "...but everyone has a favorite 90's band..." - NOT!
Jeff (Geezer and proud of it) - and stay off my lawn!
I wonder why the current cable show SHAMELESS (my current favorite) is referred to as "recent".
(It's not only in the midst of Season 2, but Showtime has already renewed it for next season)
