New edition of 'Huckleberry Finn' to lose the 'n' word | Shelf Life | EW.com: "What is a word worth? According to Publishers Weekly, NewSouth Books’ upcoming edition of Mark Twain’s seminal novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will remove all instances of the “n” word—I’ll give you a hint, it’s not nonesuch—present in the text and replace it with slave. The new book will also remove usage of the word Injun. The effort is spearheaded by Twain expert Alan Gribben, who says his PC-ified version is not an attempt to neuter the classic but rather to update it. “Race matters in these books,” Gribben told PW. “It’s a matter of how you express that in the 21st century.”"

I think Gribben is a bit of the "a" word.

Amen, Jerry.

Race matters? What kind of bs weasel-mouthed crap is that?

Maybe he can issue his new G rated version of The Bible next.

We have a City Councilman here in NYC (to all our shame) who is a former Black Panther named Charles Barron (if you caught any of the NY Governor's debate last year, he was among the candidates) who has been pushing a similar program.

Anyone who is on the same page as Mr. Barron is persona non grata in this household.

Let see, They have already changed the History Textbooks that our children have to learn from. Now they are changing American Classic Literature. Next expect them to start dubbing the words spoken in all the Tarantino films.

Okay, as a black man, I find this pretty stupid. But if there's anything positive to take from it (and there ain't much), it may be that pulling the "n" word from Twain's book might encourage people who would have been reluctant otherwise to read it.

History is history, people. You can't turn back the clock on it to make it more palatable and inoffensive to the masses.
