At one time there was a pitching coach (for the Cubs, I believe) named Dick Pole. My husband and I could never hear the announcer saying, "Dick Pole is heading out to the mound," without exchanging snorts of smutty laughter.
Well, not only was Dick Armey a prominent Member of the US House, but for part of his tenure he was theoretically opposed across the aisle by the hardworking Dick Swett (D-NH).
I ask the reader, would you prefer a Dick Armey, or more Dick Swett?
And, really, "Rick" is such a simple choice of nickname. "Rich Armey" and "Rich Swett" aren't nearly as funny...perhaps the rub, the tug of or along with the cream of the jest...

My father's favorite was a Cub player named Pete LaCock. He really liked that name.
Didn't he become Peter Marshall, host of the Hollywood Squares?
I believe Peter Marshall is his son.
