Happy King Day, everyone.

Sidney Lens, in his UNREPENTANT RADICAL, recalls the attempt to draft King to run for the presidency in 1968, with Benjamin Spock as his Veep running mate (it would be an easy choice for me vs. Humphrey, Nixon, and Wallace...all of whom have their points, even with Wallace's then-proud racism and Nixon's paranoia, I'm sorry to say, vs. the incumbent). Of course, events put an end to any thought of that, and Spock ran for Pres. in '72 on the People's Party ticket. I think it was Michael Bishop who wrote the sf story I faintly recall about President-Elect King.
